March 2016 | Kyle Leary
Leary’s commentary examined typical income in Northern Ontario. He determined the current level of median individual income is generally slightly lower in the region than in the province as a whole, as is market income as a share of total income. Moreover, the raw figures reveal measurable disparity in the demographics of sex and Indigenous peoples. However, the growth of real median individual income was stronger here than in the province as a whole during the fifteen-year period ending in 2010. Finally, the report shows the middle class is large and income inequality is low in Northern Ontario relative to the Canadian average in about half the census districts.
